Brittany at it’s best – Hotel Castelbrac in Dinard
As promised here is the second part of our 3 day road-trip through Normandy and Brittany. After having spent a beautiful day in Deauville at Les Manoirs de Tourgeville, we started our day off with a quick walk at the beach of Deauville to take some pictures with the cute umbrellas and to find a place to have lunch. Taking pictures took a bit longer than anticipated so we opted for a quick crêpes at the beachfront. Full of energy and very excited to explore our second destination we headed towards the beautiful beach town Dinard in Brittany.
Our excitement was mainly due to the fact that we couldn’t wait to check out our hotel. We were very lucky to have secured one of the last rooms for this day at the stunning 5* Hotel Castelbrac right at the sea front in Dinard. When found it online and made our booking we were already very excited after having seen all the pictures, but we were definitely not prepared for this experience.
After we checked in and the staff took us to our room, we got our next surprise. The room wasn’t only beautifully decorated but also we had a stunning view of the complete bay from our bedroom and if that wasn’t enough to admire already wait until you enter the bathroom. Imagine having a bath at night with a view on the whole bay. From this on I was already in love with this place.
Our room was equipped with everything (we even had a Nespresso Coffee Machine in the closet). The design was very modern and chic and it was tough making a decision to either stay in the comfortable bed and enjoy the views or go outside and discover the town.
Eventually we made it outside and got to see the rest of the hotel. The hotel is set in the old Aquarium of Dinard and here and there you can see some reminders of the old aquarium. Our tour of the area first got us the Aquarium Bar that has an art deco flair and when you go a bit further you’ll get to the beautiful lobby with a great terrace. The whole interior has been redecorated by the talented interior designer Sandra Benhamou and Léonie Alma Mason.
However I still had to discover the best part of the hotel yet – the pool. Once I found the pool and went up there I couldn’t believe my eyes. I got spend some time in such a beautiful pool overlooking the bay. Finally I had time again to relax and just enjoy. It got sunny and I went to the sundeck and tanned for a while. This is exactly what I wish for when I am looking for in a hotel. Being able to take time off the busy city live with all the social media addiction and just relax. It felt really good but way too short.
The rest of the evening we went on a little walk around town along the coastline. From the tip of the bay ( Pointe du Moulinet ) you have a beautiful way on Saint-Malo and there is nice little walk with beautiful views of the coast and the nearby beach. In the end we were looking for a nice place to eat and found a place after some research on google and trip advisor, but when we arrived it was closed contrary to what was written online. So we went back to our hotel knowing they had a restaurant too. The “Pourquoi pas” (why not) , that’s the name of the restaurant, reflected our intentions: let’s try, why not, right?
The restaurant is a bit fancier and pricier than we expected and for what we had planned for the evening: having just a nice meal without too much effort. Once we checked the menu, we changed our plans and opted for something else: room-service! Luckily that was an excellent decision. Their room-service menu is more affordable and classic. We picked a soup, Cesar’s salad and fresh cod. 25min later we had everything and enjoyed a great meal with a beautiful view from our bed. Couldn’t have wished for anything better.
Unfortunately we only stayed for a night at Castelbrac and I wished I could have stayed a bit longer, but we had to continue our raid trip to our last destination – Le mont Saint-Michel. I was really excited to finally see the Mont Saint-Michel and on my next blog post I’ll tell you everything about it and the last evening in Deauville.
